Background:
Born in Pretoria on 30 May 1986, this previous Gymkhana athlete is now aiming for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London - with ‘angels’ rooting for him all the way.
Berno currently resides in Gauteng and works in Construction when not training with renowned coach, Ampie Louw to achieve; first his National, and then his Paralympic goals.
An above knee amputee, Berno lost his right leg in 2008 due to recurring malignant cancer. In January 2009 he received his Icexpress walking prosthesis and was literally ‘back in the saddle’ by March 2009.

At the 2010 Nedbank National Championships, Berno achieved the following:
T42- 15.43 seconds
T42- 35.70 seconds
T42 Shotput - 07.38 meters for a Bronz Medal in this event.
Berno just missed the Qualifying Standard which stands at 15.80 seconds. For this athlete who has only started training for athletics in 2009, breaking the 16.00 seconds mark is an achievement in itself.
Personal Aspirations:
“My aim is to perform to such a degree that I may be short-listed for the Road to London 2012 Campaign. This will allow me more time to train towards achieving optimum performance, and a chance for success in 2012.
