Background:
Fifteen year old Junior Mavuso is the latest member to join both Team Icexpress as well as Icexpress’ Jumping Kids Project. Born on 6 February 1995, he lost his left leg above the knee in a car accident when only three years of age.
After struggling for years with his state-issued prosthesis, Junior received his Icexpress prosthetic leg in January 2010. This was made possible through the combined efforts of Heugene Murray (a member of Team Icexpress), the Muriel Brand School for Disabled Children (where Junior is a Gr. 8 scholar), members the Brakpan community, and the Jumping Kids Project itself.
Citing Oscar Pistorius as one of his role-models, and the F44 Discus as his favourite field event, this charming young athlete from Vosloorus represents the future of Paralympic sport in South Africa and is one to watch!

Recent Results:
Since receiving his Icexpress walking Prosthetic in January of this year; Junior made the Central Gauteng team, started to jog, and is achieving competitive distances in all of his field events.He won the Gold in all three F44 Boys under 16 Field events at the 2010 Nedbank National Championships with distances as follows:

Personal Aspirations:
“I am looking forward to trying out a Cheetah Blade when the time is right, and to doing my best at the 2010 SA Championships. My dream is to compete at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.”
