SA Athletes shine during European Season

The story of SA’s European Disabled Athletics Season started on 25 May at the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester, continued through the Netherlands at the Dutch Open in Emmen & IWAS Open in Stadskanaal, and ended with the German leg of the series at the International Sports Meeting in Leverkusen followed by the German Open in Bottrot from11to 13 June.

Williams will walk

Pretoria - Eersterust resident, 23 year old Roy Williams is taking a step towards independence. Good Morning Angels, in collaboration with Icexpress Progressive Prosthetics, the Bulls and Morne Steyn, Volvo, MMT Law & SAB combined to raise funds enough to grant Williams his wish to regain mobility and "get on with life" at the Jacaranda 94.2 Broadcasting Studio yesterday.

Icexpress three continue medals-streak in Stadskanaal

The annual IWAS Open Athletics Championships that took place from 2-6 June in The Netherlands, provided three South African participants (associated with local company Icexpress Progressive Prosthetics) with another opportunity to measure themselves on the international stage. The "Team Icexpress" group - consisting of Arnu Fourie, David Roos and Jean Joubert- added four Gold, one Silver, and two Bronze medals to their tally making for a fruitful European season indeed considering the athletes' combined results so far.

Amputee athletes in the medals at Dutch Open

Three members of Team Icexpress competed as part of the South African squad at the Open Dutch Athletics Championships for Disabled Athletes hosted in Emmen, The Netherlands, this past weekend. True to their reputation for finishing in the medals, track and field athletes Arnu Fourie, David Roos, and Jean Joubert took two Gold, one Silver, and two Bronze between them during the two-day competition that took place in cold, wet conditions on 29 & 30 May.

Seniors glory for Randpark’s Clive Edwards

May 2010

Johannesburg – Local leg amputee, Clive Edwards, accomplished his goal of winning the Senior’s division at the Nedbank SA Disabled Golf Open this week. Edwards went into the last round, played at the Randpark Golf Club on Wednesday, with a comfortable eleven point lead. He ended the tournament with a 97 off his 23 handicap to take the seniors title, as well as second place in his handicap division.

SA Sprinters take Gold & Silver at BT Paralympic World Cup

Today, during the sixth annual BT Paralympic World Cup staged at the Regional Arena in Manchester, local Paralympic stars; Oscar Pistorius and Arnu Fourie’ took frist and second place respectively in the T44event. Pistorius finished first, with a time of 11.33 seconds, with Fourie ‘hot on his heels’ with his time of 11.57 seconds. Great Britain’s Ian Jones took the Bronze with a time of 11.90 and USA sprinter, David Prince, came in fourth.

Young golfer gets first taste of Nedbank Disabled Golf Open
May 2010

Nineteen year old amputee Duane Janse van Rensburg, the latest addition to Team Icexpress, competed at his first Nedbank SA Disabled Golf Open hosted by the Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg this month. Janse van Rensburg, who started playing golf less than five months ago, kept improving as the three day tournament progressed and finished fifth in the Junior Division with a score of 101 on the last day.

Angels still flapping for paralympic hopeful.

Today, Berno Haarhoff arrived at the Jacaranda Broadcasting Centre for what he believed to be a routine follow-up interview. What awaited him was non-other than Springbok fly-half Morn Steyn, kicking-coach Vlok Cilliers, Craig Roberts & Janette Cavanagh from Volvo SA, Johan Snyders from Icexpress Progressive Prosthetics, the Good Morning Angels team, and a significant donation!

Clive Edwards Competes at First SADGA Provincial Golf Challenge
December 2009

A carefully selected 16-player team from Gauteng Region - (Clive Edwards being one of them) - saw the inaugural Provincial Disabled Golf Challenge swing Western Cape's way. The event, hosted at Arabella Golf Course on the 5th & 6th of December, took the order of 'Ryder Cup' and 'Presidents Cup' in each respective round. Non-playing captains Pieter Verwey (Western Cape) & Jannie de Beer (Gauteng) worked to steer their team towards victory!

PRETORIA, South Africa — Muhammed Saib grins excitedly. In two hours he became taller by an inch, his shoe size went from 4 to 5 and he is wearing new, cool black sneakers.“Look at my feet, they are bigger, bouncier, lighter!” he chortles, each step wider and steadier.Saib, 13, just got new prosthetic feet and legs. Born with a rare bone disease, his legs end high on the thigh and he lacks a hip connection.
