We at Icexpress Progressive Prosthetics feel it is very important to give back.
Living in South Africa, we are part of a number of third world countries, were there is not enough funding or the recourses to provide all amputees with a prosthesis.
Icexpress Progressive Prosthetics launched a section 21 non-for-profit division at the Innovation Hub on 9 June 2009 with the project Jumping Kids.
Icexpress Progressive Prosthetics together with the mother company, OK Prosthetics has already done a number of projects in other third world countries. Jumping kids will be our first South African project.
Traditional leg making is very time consuming. Often when an amputee then do receive the prosthesis itīs not fitting properly, due to stump changes during the waiting period. Prosthetic components provided are also often of a low standard and not durable.
It is here that Icexpress can make a huge difference. Together with OK Prosthetics we have developed a new quick way of making a prosthesis without compromising on durability and quality. The socket of the prosthesis is made on the patient self, with tools that can be carried around in a bag (no electricity is needed). From start to finish it takes about 45 minutes to get an amputee up and walking again on the same day.
All components and tools are produced by the prosthetic company, Ossur, in Iceland and tested according to ISO standards.
